Got any recommendations?
Bought this nifty pistol-grip gun a few years ago to replace my old school long-handled grease pumper. One of the best upgrades I’ve made, tool-wise. I’m just too lazy to tighten and loosen the coupler for every zerk fitting in order to keep both of my hands free for pumping. Especially when that coupler gets all slippery with grease. Having one hand free to hold the coupler on the fittings instead makes a huge difference.
When I first got it, I dropped a tube of Lucas’s “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ” in there and have been using that ever since on U-joints, ball-joints, tie-rods, etc. I haven’t had any problems with it, but if there’s any reason to start using something else instead, now’s the time. It took a while for me to get through that one tube, and I’m sure it’ll be a while before I get another opportunity to change my mind.
So what chassis greases do you like, Oppo? Have any lessons to share from high-stress racing applications, or heavy-duty use? Any bad experiences from using certain brands or formulas? Have you seen one product performing demonstrably better than another?
[UPDATE 09/24/2018- I went ahead with Red Line CV-2. Very sticky, and slippery stuff. The specs are pretty great too. I’m impressed.]

I like bacon grease. It imparts a nice savoury, yet salt flavour.
Oh wait, wrong application...

I have a pistol grip Lincoln grease gun loaded up with red ‘n tacky (and another tube on the shelf) so I do not have much useful advic
e if you’re looking for a change of pace.

Seriously, what’s recommended for your vehicle? If the red n tacky works, stick with it. The first tube of grease in my gun was red, and it leaked everywhere. I switched to a heavier brown goo, and I’m much happier. No mess, lubrication seems to be acceptable working fine .

My car came with sealed joints from the factory, but many of them have since been replaced with greaseable aftermarket parts. I could probably get away with pumping just about anything in there, but I’m letting myself be picky. If there’s something that lubricates more effectively, lasts longer, or holds up better against heat than what I’ve been using , then I’m ready to upgrade.

I run this stuff in my grease gun, but that is because it is the spec grease for things on the boat. It has worked fine as a chassis lube on cars, too, but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to use it were it not called for by the boat.

I’ve been using the “WD-40 Specialist Superior Performance True Multi-Purpose Grease” and the spec sheet, at least, is impressive. The ratings are at least better than the standard bearing and ujoint grease I checked. Touch expensive at $8 a tube though.

I always lean toward the marine stuff because it works so well in the wet (duh) but also just because that’s what all the guys I learned to wrench from Always had in their grease guns. Also, that style of gun is the great for the exact reasons you said. I have so many damn grease points under my truck, it’s life-changing having a free hand to hold the fitting on.

You’re welcome.

I use the most $5 grease that said “axle” on it at autozone, applied by finger.

Some greases are more $5 than others!

The specs on that stuff look great! Pricey compared to other greases, but negligibly so in light of how long it takes me to go through one tube of the stuff.

Yeah. I still have some left in my tube after four years, and I've done my wheel bearings a few times.

Oh! I actually have some of that , in a mini grease gun. Almost forgot about it. Picked it up specifically for greasing poly bushings.
